Eating Healthy During the Holidays

Eating healthy during the holidays can be extremely difficult for many. However, I’ve come up with three great tips to help you stay centered, and even lose weight, through this holiday season.

Tip #1- Remember Your Why!

Write down your WHY and even include a picture that inspires you to keep reaching for your health & fitness goals. The picture could be a flyer from a race you’re training for, or a picture of you from high school where you’re at your goal weight. Whatever the WHY is- make it strong and put the goal and your picture somewhere you can see it. I keep my goal lists behind my bedroom door and I can see them from my bed. Every day I am reminded of WHY I set healthy goals for myself!

Tip #2- Reward Meals

It’s important during this time of year to eat healthy, sure, but also to have reward meals/snacks planned as well. It would be unrealistic to expect someone to not indulge a bit. So for example- take Thanksgiving and Christmas Day off. Eat what you want, and enjoy every bite! The danger comes when you group Oct 31st- Jan 2nd into one big eating festival! (as fun as that sounds!) 🙂

So, don’t beat yourself up for the actual Holi-DAY(s) (there’s really only three left- Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years). Then, the rest of the days follow your healthy eating plan and you will be fine- more than fine- awesome!

Tip #3- Track your Food

If you are trying to lose weight, even just a few poundss or quite a few more- tracking your food is so important. It keeps you accountable to what you’re actually putting in your mouth. Tracking food becomes increasingly important through the Holiday season. All those bites, licks, and tastes’ (BLT’s) can add up to extra calories very quickly. Free apps like (available for smart phones) are a wonderful way to track your food, drinks and exercise so that you can stay ON TRACK for your goals.

I hope that you enjoyed this list. These are three things that help me on a daily basis myself. It’s important in all of life to have balance. Don’t be too hard on yourself, and don’t be too light either. Steady Goes it, so they say!
