How Running Saved my Life

My Dad is a runner. He has always run, he was a runner in high school did a few marathons in his 30s and 40s. When my 4 brothers and I were kids, he would take us running with him. I HATED IT!! LOL, I would have rather stayed home.

I remember reading this article when I was probably 29, it said something like “You can do it, run a 5K in 12 weeks” and something with in me said, yeah, I can do it!!! So I started to run with my dogs a little here and there. I then signed up for my first 5K, the Thanksgiving Run to Feed the Hungry. I remember being nervous and excited the morning of the event and then feeling so accomplished when I crossed the finish line! I ran another 5K a year after that but didn’t keep up with my running.

After having my daughter in 2008, I started P90X and got into the best shape of my life. I went down 2 full dress sizes and was smaller after having her than I was before!! I began to run a little bit and the thought of signing up for a half marathon was always something that intrigued me. So, I signed up for the Run Like a Diva Half Marathon in October 2011. I was so nervous as I hit send on my entry form but it felt good planning to do something I was scared of!! My plan was to train for it and be ready by race day 2012. Then my life suddenly changed….
